I happen to be familiar with a vast sum of <img class="avatar" src="a.deviantart.net/avatars/o/k/o…" alt=":iconokapizen:" title="OkapiZen"/>'s oeuvre (paintings, sculptures, lamps, etc.) in their actual material form. Digitally compressed & miniaturized versions cannot come near doing justice to the real works.
Regarding this painting in particular, I'll begin by stating that I am thrilled that among all the nearly wall-sized paintings in the "Primitive" & "Re-Primitive" series, this is the largest in its dimensions, for it is my favorite one; aside from the many reasons that must be evident at a glance to any viewer [e.g. the madly obsessive detail, which magically accumulates in an overall balance of composition, visual rhythm, harmony of hard edges and soft inner tones, delicate color, and contrast with sharp shards, abstract yet concrete, organized chaos....], it has a deep personal resonance for one of the prevailing motifs of my own vita loca. I'm not even sure if the artist, who was not yet fluent in English at the time that he painted this (Japanese is his native tongue), was aware of the expression "to walk on eggshells." All too many times this expression has been directed at me, I suppose because my psychiatric condition comes with a variety of hyper-sensitivity that is always in a state of latent combustion, which occasionally does take a turn to a manifest whirlwind of obscene fury with a trail of wreckage and ruins.
Thus comes the sick and consequently most beautiful chord which the metaphor that I see in this masterpiece strikes for me:
Yes, the eggshells are fragile. Better keep a safe distance, for if you dare tread on them, even with the utmost care possible, there is still a gross risk of their cracking.
But, here, lo and behold: the eggshells already are broken, and in their exposed state they appear even more delicate, their texture much richer, their previously hidden deeper, inner dimensions seem rather like some unexpected marvel...
I am fortunate to now have this painting on my own wall, and it brings me much comfort, delight, and endless awe.
Thank you ~{Zen}~ for creating 'Primitive 06' , and for sharing it as well, of course.
